Car Stars of Television
Show Titles A-G, H-O, P-Z.
Hardcastle and McCormick
, also: Rear angle, Front view, Airborne, Love at first sight, , The later Delorean 'Coyote'
1983-1986. Car: Modified Manta Montage Kit Car on VW chassis, then replaced by a heavily-modified Delorean
5MB MOV of the opening credits!
8-10-96- The production Manta Montage used a VW chassis with the side pans cut out out and the Montage body fit over the
remaining backbone. The Montage was modified for the show by removing the bubbleback rear window and replacing
it with a flying buttress, like the 68-77 Corvettes. The car may have used a Porsche or Corvair engine and transaxle,
but I can't confirm this.
There was also a second Coyote version used later in the series. It was built on a Delorean backbone mated to a
pantera zf tranny with built V6. The change was due to Brian Keith's inability to get in and out of the first car with
ease. This car was seen in poor shape last year at MGM Studios, Florida.
6-3-97- Two new pictures of the Coyote.
5/7/98- Just added two new pics and a large (5MB!) MOV file for your viewing pleasure! Check it out above!

Knight Rider
, also: Another angle, Title Screen, In flight, Interior!
1982-1986. Car: Modified 1982 Pontiac TransAm.
As with most serial TV, this shows quality and continuity left much
to be desired. However, that didn't mean it wasn't still neat to see the black TransAm careening thru (empty)
boxes and squealing it's tires (on loose dirt)!! Late in it's run, various tricks were tried to extend the shows life,
each more insulting than the last....the addition of 'Super Pursuit' mode had useless hunks of techno-thingys
protruding from every available location on the car, now looking like a poor Lego sculpture. This was followed
by a mysterious retractable hardtop, the physics of which boggle the mind. Oh...almost forgot the best part of
this show........Michaels' neat clothes! Totally 'Members Only' eighties!!
4/10/96- Two BIG new photos!
6/2/97- Another cool new picture!
12/12/96- Herbie the Love Bug pops up in a Knight Rider episode, during a chase scene, as one
of the "moving obstacle" cars on the road. These being the cars on the
road that the knight rider car swerves through on it's way someplace
very important to the plot. It may be the episode where Garth is broekn out of prison by his truck Goliath.
You've got to look fast, as the VW is only onscreen for about three seconds, in a 3/4 view, as K.I.T.T blows by it.

Mannix
196?-197?. Cars: Modified 1968 Oldsmobile Toronado and various Plymouths
The Mannix Roadsters, built by Dick Dean out of the Barris Kustoms shop, were built from '68 Olds Toronados &
were pretty wild customs. 2 cars were built, and Barris retained the cars after the first 32 episodes (replaced by
a pair of '68 Dodge Dart GTS converts), 1 ended up at Hollywood Motorama Museum in sad shape. Both were
sold at the '84 Barris auction. One is rumored to be in a museum in Tennessee.

The Monkees
, also: Front view with George Barris
196?-196?. Car: Customized 1967 Pontiac GTO
The Monkee-mobile is a Pontiac GTO convertible customized for the
Monkees' TV show and for special touring promos early in their career.
The car has a 389 Pontiac V8 with 3 2-barrel
carburators. The car features a custom fiberglass front and hood (to
accomodate the blower), special "the Monkees" logo painted on both
doors, custom chrome exhaust and a custom convertible top.

Nash Bridges
, Also: The 'Principle' car (foreground- note the real rubber bumper) and the three back-up cars.
1996- . Car: 1971 Hemi 'Cuda convertible
There is a controversy among this shows fandom as to whether this car is actually a 1970 or 1971 model. While idiotic to die-hard
car nuts like me, the situation is fueled by the fact that on the show, and even by Don Johnson during interviews, the official word is
that the car is a 1970. It is possible that this WAS true, and the car has been altered to become a 1971 look-alike, but to state the
car is now anything but a 1971 is stupid. The four-headlite arrangement, seperate brake and reverse lamp lenses and fender
'gills' are all unique to one year of manufacture..1971. End of debate. The fact that the characters on this show call it a 1970
just perpetuates the heritage of poor research and continuity that TV series have always had. They may as well call it a Mustang!

8-10-96- One of my visitors just pointed out that the bumper is not the matched rubber bumper it seems to be, but rather is
the standard steel bumper painted yellow to fake the option! Good catch!!
